Grandma refers to this as our ‘Golden Family Treasure’—and she’s absolutely right!

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
3/4 cup whole milk
Directions
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add the cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the milk. Stir gently with a fork until the dough just comes together.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times to bring it together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
Roll the dough out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Using a biscuit cutter, cut out rounds and place them close together in a cast iron skillet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter, if desired. Serve warm.

Variations & Tips
For a cheesy twist, add 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese to the flour mixture before adding the milk. You can also experiment with herbs, such as adding a teaspoon of dried rosemary or thyme for a more savory flavor. If you’re looking for a touch of sweetness, sprinkle a bit of sugar over the tops before baking. For those avoiding dairy, substitute the butter and milk with plant-based alternatives, such as vegan butter and almond milk, to make these biscuits vegan-friendly.
